Venue : Dance Complex

SambaViva’s got you covered for any Brazilian dance related resolutions! Join us for a special workshop dedicated to Maracatu, the rhythm and dance most popular in the Northeastern state of Pernambuco. Performed in a procession through the streets, it brings the coronation court of the queens and kings of Congo to the people. The Maracatu rhythm is heavy percussion with complex syncopation, inheritance of the enslaved Africans in Brazil.

Our guest instructors are Piéra Varin and her partner André Simoes from Um Pelo Outro. Um Pelo Outro works with different artistic languages: dance, music and performing arts to rethink the relationships between spaces, subjects, cultures and exchanges. The traditions of the people are their support for physical and scenic action research. As part of their work they seek to share their art research with different people by presenting dance forms, performing shows, workshops, workshops for professionals, amateurs and everyone interested in knowing Brazilian culture, regardless of age or experience in dance.

The workshop will consist of learning both the rhythm and dance so get ready to engage your mind and body!
